ABOUT THE ARTIST &
THE RALEIGH HALL OF FAME MEDALLION

The Raleigh Hall of Fame Medallion was designed by long-time Raleigh resident and accomplished artist, Bob Rankin. Rankin is also a 2015 Raleigh Hall of Fame Inductee.

Known for his paintings of vivid color and high energy, Rankin’s works reflect the color relationships, surface treatments and energy discovered during his explorations around the world.

Rankin is a 1971 graduate of East Carolina University and received a BS in Art Education. He recently retired from teaching after 30 years and now paints full-time. Among other honors, Rankin is the recipient of the Raleigh Medal of Arts and was featured in International Artist Magazine in 2001.

Rankin shares, “the inspiration for the design was my favorite entrance into Raleigh from South Saunders Street. It is a combination of the City of Oaks with an emerging Raleigh skyline with a contemporary flair.”
